According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/ars\/13\/01105.htm\">A.R.S. 13-1105<\/a>, first degree murder is committed when the offender:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Intends for their conduct to cause death or knows that their conduct will cause death.<\/li>\n<li>Causes the death of another person, including an unborn child, with premeditation.<\/li>\n<li>Causes the death of an unborn child as a result of causing the death of another person with premeditation.<\/li>\n<li>Intends for their conduct to cause death to a law enforcement officer in the line of duty or knows that their conduct will result in such.<\/li>\n<li>Causes the death of another person while committing a specific offense, or fleeing from the offense, including:\n<ul>\n<li>Sexual conduct with a minor<\/li>\n<li>Sexual assault<\/li>\n<li>Molestation of a child<\/li>\n<li>Terrorism<\/li>\n<li>Certain marijuana offenses<\/li>\n<li>Certain dangerous drug or narcotics offenses<\/li>\n<li>Drive-by shooting<\/li>\n<li>Kidnapping<\/li>\n<li>Burglary<\/li>\n<li>Arson<\/li>\n<li>Robbery<\/li>\n<li>Escape<\/li>\n<li>Child abuse<\/li>\n<li>Unlawful flight from law enforcement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An individual cannot be prosecuted for first degree murder while performing an abortion or medical treatment on a pregnant mother if the procedure was consented to but resulted in the death of the mother or the unborn child.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Penalties for First Degree Murder<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>First degree murder convictions are class 1 felonies.<\/p>\n<p>Offenders aged 18 or older can be sentenced to the death penalty or natural life in prison through the Arizona Department of Corrections.
