Making false statements is considered perjury and is punishable by law.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/ars\/13\/02702.htm\">A.R.S. 13-2702<\/a>, a person commits perjury by either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Making a false sworn statement in regard to a material issue, believing it to be false.<\/li>\n<li>Making a false unsworn declaration, certificate, verification, or statement in regard to a material issue that the person subscribes as true under penalty of perjury, believing it to be false.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Perjury only applies to material issues. An issue is not considered material if it does not impact the outcome of a proceeding in a case.
