The bullet was estimated to have been fired from a half-mile away, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.12news.com\/article\/news\/crime\/shannons-law-celebratory-gunfire-illegal-in-arizona\/75-97560c36-34ac-4485-9819-30a64f0b4803\">12 News<\/a>. Shannon died as a result of her injury. As of 2023, the case is cold, with the individual who fired the bullet having never been located.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maricopacountyattorney.org\/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=722\">Maricopa County Attorney\u2019s Office<\/a> reported that Shannon\u2019s parents worked in cooperation with local organizations, law enforcement, politicians, and attorneys to make firing a gun into the air a felony. At the time of Shannon\u2019s death, it was only a misdemeanor.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, \u201cShannon\u2019s Law\u201d was passed, making firing a gun into the air a class 6 felony according to the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/ars\/13\/03107.htm\">A.R.S. 13-3107<\/a>. As Officer Kristopher Babros, of the Peoria Police Department, stated, \u201cDon\u2019t shoot a gun into the air.
