What Do They Do?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Courthouses in Arizona have a variety of judges and similar staff to keep all court proceedings running smoothly. Each has their own obligations and responsibilities within the court.<\/p>\n<p>At the top of the judicial list is the presiding judge. This judge is the senior active judge within a specific court or judicial district and their responsibilities are outlines in <a href=\"https:\/\/govt.westlaw.com\/azrules\/Document\/NEE2A4F70717A11DAA16E8D4AC7636430?transitionType=Default&amp;contextData=%28sc.Default%29\">Rule 92<\/a> of Arizona\u2019s Supplemental Court Rules.<\/p>\n<p>Presiding judges have the following powers or duties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide general administrative supervision of the court and its judges.<\/li>\n<li>Make regular and special assignment of all judges.<\/li>\n<li>Assign judges within the county to other counties.<\/li>\n<li>Prescribe the powers and duties of the clerk of the court, in addition to the powers and duties prescribed by law and the Supreme Court.<\/li>\n<li>With Supreme Court approval, appoint an associate presiding judge to serve as acting presiding judge when required due to absence or unavailability.<\/li>\n<li>Determine the need and approval for the allocation of space and furnishings in the court.<\/li>\n<li>Determine the need and approval for the allocation for the construction of new court buildings, courtrooms and related physical facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Determine the need and approval for the allocation for the modification of existing court buildings, courtrooms and related physical facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Identify and develop programs that provide alternative methods of resolution of civil disputes.<\/li>\n<li>Promulgate such local rules as a majority of the judges of the county may approve establishing and governing such alternative dispute resolution programs.<\/li>\n<li>In counties with more than one judge, the presiding judge may, upon the presiding judge&#8217;s motion or upon the motion of any party, assign a case permanently to one judge for all purposes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While associate presiding judges may exercise most of these powers when required to serve as acting presiding judge, they may <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> appoint court commissioners or appoint judges permanently to special assignments.<\/p>\n<p>The Arizona Judicial Branch provides a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcourts.gov\/pjs\">listing<\/a> of all the current presiding judges for each county.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>RIDEOUT LAW GROUP<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>With offices in Lake Havasu City and Scottsdale, our firm serves the entire state of Arizona, with a particular focus on criminal defense, family law, and juvenile cases.<\/p>\n<p>Our goal is for the best outcome for your criminal case, which can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>charges that are reduced or dropped.<\/li>\n<li>top experts reviewing your case.<\/li>\n<li>aggressive negotiations with the prosecution for plea bargains.<\/li>\n<li>fines or probation in lieu of jail time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At Rideout Law Group, our attorneys are able to expertly examine the evidence in your case to provide a strong strategy for argument that leads to an outcome that is most favorable to you.
