Pursuant to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/ars\/13\/03101.htm\">A.R.S. 13-3101<\/a>, any device designed, made, or adapted to muffle the report of a firearm (a silencer) is considered a <a href=\"https:\/\/rideoutlaw.com\/illegal-guns-what-firearms-are-prohibited-in-arizona\/\"><strong><em>prohibited weapon<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Possessing a prohibited weapon, such as a silencer, is a <strong><em>class 4 felony<\/em><\/strong> for which a first-time offender could face incarceration of up to 3.75 years. Additional charges can apply if the crime involves a prohibited possessor or for repeat offenders. Harsher penalties will be imposed if the offender used illegal firearms for purposes such as terrorism, committing a felony offense, or involvement in a <a href=\"https:\/\/rideoutlaw.com\/arizonas-gang-laws\/\">criminal street gang<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Silencers that Comply with Federal Law<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Despite gun silencers being classified as a prohibited weapon by state law, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/ars\/17\/00251.htm\">A.R.S. 17-251 <\/a>allows for the possession of silencers for the taking of wildlife or while hunting. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atf.gov\/firearms\/privately-made-firearms\">Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives<\/a>, firearm silencers are legal on a state-by-state basis for hunting only.
