Knowing what to wear and how to compose yourself can help ease your nerves and keep you feeling as comfortable as possible. Rideout Law Group recommends following <a href=\"https:\/\/rideoutlaw.com\/what-to-wear-to-court\/\">these general guidelines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, women tend to have a much broader array of clothing options than men do and can leave them feeling confused or overwhelmed when it comes to appropriate appearance.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women\u2019s Clothing<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Women attending court are encouraged to dress in conservative \u201ccasual formal\u201d attire. It is important to be comfortable and not constricted, such as may be caused by formal dresses and\/or skirts. Courts may vary in temperature, so outfits that are heavy or can cause overheating are not recommended. The following garments are recommended for women to wear to court:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A nice blouse.<\/li>\n<li>Nice dark-denim jeans, without holes or cutoffs.<\/li>\n<li>Tailored pants or trousers.<\/li>\n<li>Well-fitting professional skirts or dresses that are at least knee-length.<\/li>\n<li>Solid colored garments or simple and conservative patterns (i.e. pinstripes).<\/li>\n<li>A sweater or blazer to layer in cooler temperatures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following items should <em>not<\/em> be worn to court:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Low cut and\/or tight tops.<\/li>\n<li>Short and\/or tight skirts or dresses.<\/li>\n<li>Tops that expose your midriff.<\/li>\n<li>Bright, flamboyant colors.<\/li>\n<li>Garments with graphics, logos, or content that is aggressive, offensive, controversial, or drug-referencing.<\/li>\n<li>Tops, pants, or skirts that allow undergarments to be visible, whether standing or sitting.<\/li>\n<li>Light-wash denim.<\/li>\n<li>Sunglasses.<\/li>\n<li>Hats.<\/li>\n<li>Clothing with rips, cutoffs, frays, holes, stains, or wrinkles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Women\u2019s Footwear<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Court appearances, especially those in superior courts, often require a lot of walking. You may find yourself walking long distances through parking garages, parking lots, and through multi-level buildings. Accordingly, all footwear should be sensible. Women are encouraged to wear:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Loafers.<\/li>\n<li>Flats.<\/li>\n<li>Low-heeled, conservative boots.<\/li>\n<li>Low-heeled pumps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Women should not wear shoes that are difficult to walk in or are not conservative in nature, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High heels or stilettos.<\/li>\n<li>Flip flops or other casual sandals.<\/li>\n<li>Crocs or similar.<\/li>\n<li>Athletic sneakers.<\/li>\n<li>Brightly colored shoes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Women\u2019s Accessories, Tattoos, and Piercings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As with their clothing, women should err on the conservative side when it comes to accessories, tattoos, and piercings.<\/p>\n<p>Tattoos and piercings are acceptable, but those that display offensive, controversial, aggressive, or have marijuana-related content should be covered up.<\/p>\n<p>Earrings should be conservative in nature, such as simple studs or drop-earrings. Bright, loud, formal, and large hoops earrings should remain at home.<\/p>\n<p>Expensive accessories should not be brought into court. This includes expensive watches, expensive jewelry, and designer handbags.<\/p>\n<p>Women should also avoid distracting accessories, such as multiple bracelets\/necklaces, sunglasses, scarves, and hats.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women\u2019s Hair and Makeup<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Women do not need to style their hair in any particular way, however it should look presentable. This means it should be clean, brushed, and tidy in appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Makeup, for women who normally wear it, should be both natural and conservative.
