While all family law cases may involve some level of <a href=\"https:\/\/rideoutlaw.com\/underhanded-divorce-tactics\/\">underhanded tactics<\/a> from the other party in an effort for them to obtain their desired outcome, such tactics are particularly detrimental when children are involved.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/us\/basics\/parental-alienation\">Psychology Today<\/a>, \u201cparental alienation occurs when a child refuses to have a relationship with a parent due to manipulation, such as the conveying of exaggerated or false information, by the other parent. The situation most often arises during a divorce or custody battle, but it can happen in intact families as well.\u201d Examples include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A parent making a child believe that the other parent is dangerous in some way, when this isn\u2019t the case.<\/li>\n<li>A parent screening, hiding, or deleting calls or messages from the other parent to the child, and then telling the child that the parent has never reached out.<\/li>\n<li>Bad-mouthing the other parent in front of the child.<\/li>\n<li>Denying the other parent visitation or parenting time with the child, and then telling the child the other parent has made no attempt to see them.<\/li>\n<li>Hiding or destroying money or gifts from the other parent to the child.<\/li>\n<li>Playing the role of the \u201cvictim\u201d to obtain the child\u2019s sympathy.<\/li>\n<li>Wrongly blaming the other parent for any issues that go wrong.<\/li>\n<li>Convincing the child that the other parent does not love them.<\/li>\n<li>Telling stories about the other parent that are both false and negative.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Parents who deliberately alienate their children from the other parent typically are striving to win sole <a href=\"https:\/\/rideoutlaw.com\/navigating-legal-decision-making-issues-in-arizona-ars-25-403\/\">legal decision-making<\/a> or primary <a href=\"https:\/\/rideoutlaw.com\/creating-a-parenting-time-schedule\/\">parenting time<\/a> with the children.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>How Does Parental Alienation Affect the Child?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Parental alienation tactics may serve to effectively brainwash a child, making them lose respect for, or have negative feelings toward, the other parent.
