As Arizona’s businesses start to reopen, its important for both business owners and employees to understand workers’ rights. Arizona is set to start reopening retail businesses for curbside delivery starting May 4th. Restaurants, coffee shops, and other non-essential businesses are set to open sometime in the middle of this month.
There is going to be a dilemma here because there are specific discrimination laws on the books that prohibit employers letting only low-risk return to work. Age, pregnancy, and disabilities are all federally protected from discrimination in the workplace. Employees may be required to return to work or risk losing their job, however, they are entitled to a safe work environment and can report violations to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Association).
