Maricopa County Jail Visitation Guidelines
An individual suspected of committing a crime, whether misdemeanor or felony, can be detained in jail while they await court proceedings and sentencing. In other cases, people convicted of misdemeanor crimes may serve their sentence in a jail if their length of incarceration was ordered to be a year or less.
Maricopa County offers several jail locations throughout Phoenix. If you have a loved one incarcerated in one of these Maricopa County jails, you may be looking to visit them.
Can I Visit an Inmate In-Person At the Jail?
No. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) does not allow in-person visitation with inmates. Maricopa County jail visitation is only conducted through remote video visits.
What Do I Need for a Video Visit?
The MCSO requires anyone wishing to conduct a remote video visit to create a ViaPath account. Visitors will need to set up a GettingOut account here by using a valid email address. This will allow you to download the GettingOut Visits app on your smartphone or smart device.
What Does my Incarcerated Loved One Need for a Video Visit?
Inmates of Maricopa County’s jails are permitted inmate tablets in order to utilize their own GettingOut accounts. The tablets also allow them to share messages and photographs.
Inmates are not able to use the tablets unless they have sufficient funds in their Inmate Account. Visitors are able to deposit funds into their loved one’s Inmate Account through the GettingOut website or app.
How Can I Schedule a Video Visit?
Video visits cannot be pre-scheduled with inmates. Video visits can only be initiated by the inmates themselves when they use the on demand “Visit Now” feature on their end.
If you receive and accept a video visit request, the visitor will be charged 25 cents per minute for the duration of the visit.
When Can an Inmate Initiate a Video Visit?
Unless there are extenuating circumstances, inmates are not limited in the number of video visits they may initiate.
Video visit hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. each day, and visits are capped at a maximum duration of a half hour.

Can I Call an Inmate?
Like video visits, telephone calls are permitted but are only able to be initiated by inmates themselves. Inmates can place calls between approximately 7:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. with a maximum call length of 20 minutes. All non-legal calls are recorded and require payment.
