The United States has seen a number of positive reforms to criminal justice over the course of 2020, with just a few minor setbacks.
This year has been a tough one for millions of Americans all around the country. Through the COVID Pandemic and the election, America has experienced both positive and negative changes. Some of most important improvements have been made in the criminal justice system in various states across the country.
According to the article below: “In October, Vermont’s legislature created a legal system of marijuana sales. Then, in November, voters in Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, and South Dakota legalized recreational marijuana. There are now 15 states, plus Washington, D.C., where recreational use of marijuana is legal. “
With many states changing how they treat marijuana, countless families will be reunited and many non-violent offenders can go home. Along with changes in marijuana policy, some states have gotten rid of sentences for life without the possibility of parole sentences for minors. With Virginia joining 22 other states with banning the sentence, there are still 27 other states that will incarcerate a minor for life. We cannot let this practice of ruining the lives of youth continue much longer.
